A 73,000-word work of fiction inspired by true events
by Hal Alpiar
Professor Maddigan’s midnight swamp trek triggers a stormy sabotage at sea with a quarter of a billion dollars drug delivery at stake. Murders, drownings, secret codes. Two crewmen, $12.5 million still missing!
Mob trawler sinks. Arrests follow.
40,000 hash “balls” surf onto NJ beaches at high tide.
March, 1981…Heartbeats away from closing the biggest drug deal in US history, the Solamente mob-family trawler Maltese is tethered to a Colombian freighter in rough seas, fifteen miles off the Jersey Shore.
Facing a fierce nor’easter, twenty tons of hashish are being unloaded from the delivery ship Hombre when the trawler suddenly sinks. In the chaos, wind and rain, crewmen are saved by the escort boat blackmailed away from Seaport College Professor-of-the-Year Rick Maddigan and his girlfriend JP.
As the Maltese sinks, the Hombre turns and runs. . . murders, drownings, and arrests in her wake. 40,000 “hashballs” burst through soggy cartons headed for boardwalk beaches. Scavenging hippies scamper the shoreline in frenzied pursuit.
Maddigan and JP coerce DEA agents to abandon drug charges that prompted the blackmail, and retrieve their year-round live-aboard boat. They stir up gangster politics in the process and end up at being held at gunpoint. Turncoat heroics spare them in a last-minute bullet barrage at the mob boss’s estate.
Millions of dollars were recovered, but $12.5 million totally vanished – along with two crewmen suspected as the source of startling worldwide cash deliveries.

Dear Hal ,
From one artist to another, though our form of expression may be different, BRAVO!
The premise of your novel is enticing. The researched detail, that I know is your trademark will give this book its authentic voice.
A literary agent looking for a mature, determined writer for a long term investment in creative and prolific work is well advised to contact you.

Helen/Kelly

Hello Hal,
I look forward to seeing if I can help.
I have worked as a sales rep in book publishing for over 33 years. I’d like to see a sample of HIGH TIDE to see if I can offer any suggestions. I know agents on both the East and West coasts who might be interested.

As an avid reader and book store junkie, I cannot wait to see this one on the shelf. Having read a larger sample than above I so want to know how it plays out! I will look forward to the day I cannot put nice big hardback down until I turn the final page!
Your style and flow causes me to do nothing else but read more!
